Ended seven night shifts this morning. Phew!
Cycling
home at rush hour I wanted to video some of the heavy traffic I pass.
As it was I caught this comparison of overtaking styles. One pass done
very well and the other...well not so well!
I caught up with bus driver at three further stops, passed him and then
he subsequently passed me again. Each of his overtkes done with good
planning and courtesy. If only all drivers were like him. I think I may
even have to email First buses and sing his praises. No point contacting
Royal Mail though I know it will be a waste of time.
Interesting comparison, but I still have to wonder why we're in an environment where a bendy bus has to try and safely squeeze past a cyclist, then the cyclist has to get past a huge vehicle like that, then the bus has to squeeze....and so on for miles and miles. It's hardly fair on anyone, especially in wet gloomy conditions like these.

DeleteCoz we live in the UK and not in more enlightened places Tim. The day will come though. In the UK fuel sales are down as are the number of vehicles sold. When oil prices are triple what they are now and 'road tax' is mileage based and paid for at the pump, then serious investment in cycle infrastructure will begin.
It might be too late for the current generation but I have cautious hopes for the future. I would really like to see it in my lifetime but am not holding my breath!
The Royal Mail driver's behaviour was pointless and stupid given the traffic island. Complain anyway. At the very least it will waste someone's time in the company who will have to read the email/letter. You also wont lose anything by doing so and in fact may gain something for not just you but other cyclists.
